FOLONARI FAMILY
The history of the Folonari Family extends over two centuries and is closely intertwined with the events of modern Italy, through winemaking, banking activities, and regional development. The origins date back to Lorenzo Folonari (1729), active in Valtellina in the wine trade. In the nineteenth century, with the move to Brescia, the family entered a new phase of growth.
It was with the brothers Italo and Francesco Folonari (in a 1925 photo) that the enterprise achieved national prominence. In 1892 they founded Fratelli Folonari, which soon became one of the leading Italian wine companies. In 1913, the acquisition of the historic Ruffino winery consolidated the bond with Tuscany and with the great wines of Chianti Classico. At the same time, Francesco Folonari was among the protagonists of Brescia’s economic life: in 1888 he participated in the founding of the Banca San Paolo di Brescia, of which he was president for more than thirty years, guiding an institution that was key for agricultural and industrial development.
From Francesco’s branch emerged the figure of Luigi Folonari (1893–1952). He had several children, four of whom were actively involved in the business, ensuring generational continuity. Among them, Paolo Folonari played a decisive role. As custodian of an extensive archive of private and corporate documents, he embodied the continuity between historical memory and the concrete management of the family’s assets. In recent years, he gradually entrusted leadership to his children, ensuring the generational transition and the continuation of a tradition that combines entrepreneurial responsibility with care for the land, culture, and community.
Today, with Folonari Investments, this heritage finds direct continuation. Folonari Investments represents the branch descending from Paolo Folonari and carries forward his values and vision. The management of historic properties and wine estates in Lombardy and Tuscany—many of which are leased to Ruffino—is accompanied by a long-term strategy aimed at preserving and growing the family heritage.
Alongside this, the creation of Future Capital demonstrates the ability to evolve: a private investment vehicle that applies a multidisciplinary approach, integrating economics, history, and geopolitics to address the challenges of financial markets with a forward-looking and innovative vision.
Folonari Investments is therefore the continuity of a specific branch of the broader Folonari history: with Luigi as a reference point, Paolo as the custodian, and today his children as the interpreters. A story of responsibility and renewal, faithful to its roots but open to the future, where heritage and innovation continue to meet.
